Once upon a time, September didn’t mean a whole lot to me. It was simply the gateway to October, which meant fall leaves and Halloween decorations and pumpkin spice lattes.
But now, and for the rest of my life, September is going to be hectic. Hectic in the awesome sort of way; the kind of hectic that has you celebrating one milestone at the same time that you’re preparing for the celebration of the next milestone.
First, this guy
hit a big birthday. He’s 30 now, which sounds oh-so mature, don’t you think? But we’ll always be young at heart, so I surprised him with a trip here:
I just assume everyone can tell this is Las Vegas. Maybe that assumption means I’ve been there too many times?
When I told him we were going away for a long weekend, he finally understood why I’d been working so hard to plan ahead on another celebration. The celebration of this:
We’re having family and friends over for a Fiesta First Birthday Party this weekend. Yes, a Fiesta. Yes, the I’m-not-a-theme-mom
lady caved and chose a theme. (Do you have any idea how much easier it is to decorate for a kid’s birthday party when you have a theme? Like, a lot. And really, let’s consider it more “inspiration” than “theme” or possibly even “excuse to serve tacos and Mexican brewskies.”)
When all that is done, and all the leftover cake has been consumed (I may or may not have gotten an extra big one for this very purpose), we have one more little milestone that deserves a wink and a nod.
We will hire a babysitter, we will go out to a “nice” dinner and we’ll say things like, “Remember that time when it was kind of hot outside and we went to the place with all the cactuses and we got married? That was cool.”
Perhaps I’m just trying to justify why my blogging has dropped off a bit in the past couple of weeks. I’m busy, I swear!
