A few days before Ryan started his new daycare, I called up the office to make sure everything was in order.
“Yep, we’re ready for him!” the enthusiastic assistant director told me. (Seriously, she is suuuuuper enthusiastic. Not particularly pertinent to this story, but it’s true.)
“Oh, by the way,” she continued, “Monday is also picture day!”
Me: “Picture day?”
Enthusiastic assistant director: “Picture day!!!!!”
I was admittedly a teensy bit skeptical about how well my then-13-month-old would do sitting nicely and calmly while smiling and posing in front of the standard muted background on his first day in a strange new place.
As it turns out, I needn’t worry:
The kid looks like he’s ready for kindergarten or a job interview, right?
That’s not even his best shot. This one is:
“I’m ready for my closeup, Mr. De Mille.”
I’m pretty sure I’m not supposed to be jealous of the quality of my toddler’s headshot… but dang, I’ve tried for years to get one half as good-lookin’.
