My Foster Parent Diary series is back today with an update on The New York Times’ Motherlode site. This week, I discuss the six-month anniversary of the day our foster son, BlueJay, came to live with us. A bittersweet milestone, to say the least.
Here’s an excerpt from the post:
“Six months is a milestone that feels big and important. It feels as if it would be something worth celebrating if it weren’t connected with the heartbreaking truth that he could only have been with us for six months because he couldn’t be with his birth family.
The reality of this type of parenting is that every joyous moment has a thread of loss woven through it.”
